How to Get Rid of Razor Bumps
Razor bumps not only are a problem for bearded and moustached men who shave often but is definitely also a problem of women. Why women one may ask? Well women do shave their legs and razor bumps can also occur in the leg area. However this has become a problem mainly with men as they do tend to shave more often than women especially around the face area.
A razor bump is basically a form of ingrown hair in which when a piece of hair turns back inward towards the skin and punctures it. It therefore irritates the epidermal layer and thus becomes inflamed. This can be very painful and this kind of ingrown hair can also occur in the under arm and pubic areas. This kind of bum not only occurs with men but with women who shave as well.
The basic way to get rid of these is more preventive than curative. Good shaving practices must be followed so as to not get these painful protrusions in the first place. Good skin hygiene and good skin preparation prior to shaving is the key to avoiding razor bumps in the first place. A great and basic way to prepare the area to be shaved is called the barbershop method. This is basically doing what barbers do before they shave you. You get a small bowl of hot water and thoroughly wet a small face towel in the hot water. Then you wring off the excess water and then place the hot towel on your face or area to be shaved and let the pores open up and also to soften hairs so that they do not bend backwards and causes painful bumps. Do this practice of softening up the shaving area and you will get less razor bumps.
