How to Deal With Ingrown Hair Effectively

Ingrown hairs are painful and unsightly. Some people call it “razor bumps”.They result when the hairs which you have shaved get trapped inside the follicle or grow back into the skin. Below are some things which you should know about ingrown hair.

The causes of ingrown hair

-Lack of moisture on the skin

-Curly and rough hair grown in a curved hair follicle

-Stiff beard hair

-Oily hair follicle

-Pores and the surface of the skin filled with dead skin cells. It could be genetic.

-Wrong way of shaving or using a blade too close during a shave.

Irritation due to hair removal methods such as waxing, shaving and so on can cause irritation which can lead to papule. This can cause the accumulation of dead cells and pus while healing. In-grown hair can also be caused by this as hair is trapped and fail to exit from the skin in the process of healing.

The effects of ingrown hair

-Itching

-Tingling

-Pain could be mild or severe

-Tenderness

-Pus can ruptured causing bleeding

-Pus is formed as the body is reacting by producing blister.

-Inflammation due to papule. It is known as bump or razor bumps due to the abnormality and size.

-Scar tissue in the skin depending on how bad the case is, hard and noticeable.

Important steps on shaving

-Make sure your hair is wet for at least five minutes before shaving.

-Wet hair means soft hair. Thus, it is easier too remove it. When shaving, hair is pulled up from the follicle.

-Shave according to the direction of hair growth.

-Hair will be cut too short if it is shaved in the opposite direction of the hair growth.

-Do not shave repeatedly over the same area.

-If you shave repeatedly, it will cause hair being cut too short.

-Only shave when the skin is relaxed.

-Do not over stretch the skin as you will cut your hair too short.

Tea Tree Oil is known for its ability to kill infection and prevent pus. So, use it twice a day along with a loofah when you bath/ shower.

Important steps on waxing

Follow the steps below for a successful wax.

-Holding a spatula about 45 degree, spread the wax thinly in the direction of the hair growth.

-Rub in similar direction leaving 1/3 of free space on the strip when you press the strip into the paste. This will give you a chance to grip and pull off the strip.

-Before pulling the strip, pull your skin tightly.

-Pull off the strip close to your skin. Do not pull up or out.

Waxing is most effective with one fast and smooth pull than light pulls.

Prevent dead skin cells by using a loofah. Clean ingrown areas like bikini line and upper thighs.

To prevent irritation and ingrown hair, wear loose clothes over fresh wax.
