Folliculitis – Ingrown Hair – Treatment For the Face & Sensitive Areas

Both men and women suffer from ingrown hairs. They can be unsightly and painful. Many things can bring about this common affliction. Shaving, waxing, especially the face and bikini areas, are the main culprits. The reason for this is simple: The razor creates a sharp edge on the hair. If the hair is curly (as most pubic and facial hair is) the hair, while growing back, can curl right back into the follicle instead of poking through the skin. If dead skin is allowed to stay atop this spot, an infection can occur.

In most cases, treating folliculitis is simple. Of course, it’s even simpler to keep a jump on the issue by stopping it in its tracks.

Topical treatment is the solution. Ingredients such as Alpha and Beta Hydroxy acids slough dead skin away, thereby untrapping the hair and letting it grow out normally. Salicylic, Lactic and Glycolic acids are specific names to look for in effective ingredient lists. Many body creams and face creams contain these, but a product geared for just this use is going to have more active ingredient, and therefore be even more effective.

As the ingrown hairs are growing out, it is advisable to tweeze out those that may be lodged in infected follicles. A good pair of ingrown hair tweezers is a must-have in the bathroom cabinet for not just ingrown hairs, but splinters and the like. Make sure the tweezers are wiped down with Isopropyl Alcohol (99% is preferred and available at most drug stores) before touching them to your skin.
