Eliminate Ingrown Pubic Hair

Ingrown pubic hair is unsightly, painful and can lead to infection. Razor bumps, skin irritation and infected cysts are a result of an ingrown hair.

Causes for ingrown hair in the pubic region are shaving in the opposite direction of hair growth, hair forced to grow through the tissue instead of the hair follicle from waxing, and removing the tip of the hair instead of the root while waxing. When not removed properly, it will grow in a circular pattern re-entering the skin. Small bumps may occur resembling razor rash. Larger pus filled pockets may form, causing a painful cyst.

Looser clothing, cotton underwear, new razors, and shaving after a bath when the pores are opened are preventative measures to prevent these pesky hairs. While waxing the area, exfoliate the skin first, removing dead cells that trap hair. If possible, utilize professional waxing services to avoid hair breakage.

To alleviate ingrown hair try heat packs and compresses. A touch of aloe or baby oil will soften the area. Apply the compresses for twenty minute intervals. If the hair is visible after a compress application, use sterile tweezers to pull the hair out.

If a sauna is not available, trap steam in the shower area of the bathroom. Allow ten to twenty minutes in the steam to open pores. Exfoliate the area with a natural loofa. Remove the ingrown hair with sterile tweezers then exfoliate the area again.

For more stubborn occurrences, gently pull the skin tight with the thumb and forefinger. This technique may release pus and expose the hair. Remove with sterile tweezers and apply witch hazel, hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol to the area. Salicylic acid is an over the counter product that may help rid the body of ingrown hair. Follow application instructions followed by hot compresses.
